The 101 Girls Maun event, hosted this past weekend by Hangover Sessions in collaboration with Maun Live Sessions, delivered high-energy performances and a lively urban nightlife experience, even as organisers admitted the turnout fell short of expectations.
Event organiser Shenton Kgotso Tautona said the team had aimed to draw at least 500 revelers, but only about 200 attended. Despite that, he described the event as a success in terms of execution.
“We did everything that was supposed to be done — proper sound, security and branding,” Tautona said. “But profit-wise, it was not. We were far from the target.”
Even so, Tautona believes the concept resonated. The collaboration between Hangover Sessions and Maun Live Sessions, he said, is only the beginning of a cultural shift in the town’s entertainment scene.
“101 Girls was a massive concept and people really seemed to enjoy it. The collaboration between Hangover Sessions and Maun Live Sessions is the best thing to ever happen to Maun,” he said. “We are trying to make a lifestyle of Miami in Maun by bringing fresh ideas to life. People should be excited that we are working together now.”
He added that the partnership is not only about hosting parties but about transforming the creative economy around nightlife.
“It’s about the two events changing the lives of DJs and artists in Maun, and making sure the community benefits from these initiatives,” he said.
Hangover Sessions Maun, known for its vibrant and trendy entertainment experiences, has become synonymous with nightlife in the tourism hub. The brand highlights local culture and music, hosting sessions that draw both locals and visitors. So far this year, Hangover Sessions has held six stand-alone events and collaborated with Maun Live Sessions on two others, bringing the total to eight events in 2025.
At this weekend’s showcase, attendees were treated to a fusion of hip-hop, R&B and house music, with performances from headliners Mr. Yummy and Veezo View. One of the standout moments came when Veezo View took the stage to perform his hit Zaka, controlling the crowd with the ease and confidence of a seasoned MC, leaving the audience chanting his name long after the set ended.
The stage setup at the Power Station venue was also praised for its urban aesthetic, central platform layout and dedicated photo areas that encouraged social interaction and visual engagement.
Observers say the rising wave of curated lifestyle events is shaping a fresh urban culture in Maun. Hangover Sessions, in particular, has been at the forefront of this movement, though reviews of earlier editions have been mixed as the brand continues to evolve.
For Tautona, the road ahead is long, but the vision is clear.
“This is only the beginning,” he said. “We’re building more than just events — we are building a new scene for Maun.”
The next installment of 101 Girls Maun is scheduled for the 26th of December.
